The Envision Custom Renovations team recently had the thrilling opportunity to collaborate with none other than Drew and Jonathan Scott for an episode of Property Brothers. Calgary parents Allison and Ryan knew they wanted a change, and this renovation turned out to be everything they hoped for and more.

The Project

With two kids under two years and a shortage of space, Allison and Ryan were in need of an upgrade. Finding the right ready-made house within budget proved tricky, so it was time to settle on a 1,200 sqft fixer-upper for a full-scale renovation. The couple knew they wanted high ceilings, an open plan, a practical mudroom, a contemporary kitchen, and plenty of storage space. Prior to renovation, their new property was a bit cramped, stylistically dated, and lacking in natural light. The kitchen also overlooked the driveway, not ideal for a mom who wants to keep an eye on her kids in the backyard. Drew, Jonathan, and the Envision team had their work cut out for them.

Transformative Changes

As construction began on this ambitious reno, Envision co-founder Alan Hrehirchuk was more than up to the task of giving Allison and Ryan the home of their dreams. After eliminating the unneeded walls, our team vaulted the ceilings in the kitchen to provide a major boost in spaciousness and wow factor. Not only this, but we constructed a sizeable new garage in their backyard and repurposed the old one as an addition. This allowed for maximum functionality with a mudroom and upgraded space for storage. The kitchen was moved to the back of the house to overlook the yard (which, by the way, we outfitted with a beautiful deck), and the front door was relocated to connect with the mudroom and allow extra light in with a new window.

A New Look for a New Home

An upgraded layout should always be matched with an upgraded look. The exterior walls, formerly dressed with unsightly teal cladding, were painted a timeless earth-tone grey, while going with light interior walls and hardwood flooring helped to amplify incoming natural light. As per the couple’s request, we created a modernized kitchen with an island, unique marble mosaic backsplash, and farmhouse style pendant lighting in the dining area. Foliage and natural materials also lend the space a lovely organic feel. On the whole, Ryan and Allison’s new home more than meets their functional needs while exuding both character and contemporary flare.

As the brothers pointed out in their own article on the project, this renovation showed us once again that “customizing a home, no matter the scope of the job, is better than purchasing an expensive turnkey property.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

With the right property and the right crew, renovation can be a life-changing experience that redefines the feel of your home. You deserve a living space tailored to meet your needs and those of your family, so contact us for a complimentary in-home consultation with our team.

This bright, open kitchen is a family dream. The stunning KraftMaid Geneva Maple Square cabinets are complemented by the Vico Stone countertop. The oversized island is the perfect prep area, providing additional storage for all kitchen necessities. The attention to detail in both the design and project completion is seen in every aspect of this kitchen. From the built-in dog dishes to the trimmed-in electrical outlets, to the open shelf concept by the stove, this kitchen is truly the heart of the home. The Armstrong Duality Premium Plus G6222 Hudson Green flooring is ideal for quick cleanups of any kind.

This large, open kitchen features a large island with lots of cupboard space and many unique features throughout the kitchen. Some of these great features include a coffee station hidden behind a cabinet door which is on a pull-out drawer, a Lazy Susan with pull-out shelves for easy access, a pull-out shelf for large utensils, a pull-out spice cabinet, a charging station drawer and a pull-out for garbage and recycling bins. Another feature is the ceiling height – a unique vertical kitchen backsplash with a brick lay pattern.

Wall speakers were added to this kitchen with a wall-mounted IPAD to control the audio. The outdated kitchen flooring was changed from terra cotta tile to hardwood that matches the existing site finished hardwood throughout the main floor. The new hardwood was feathered into the existing hardwood flooring. This renovation was completed with a beautiful stone feature wall that is the main focal point when you walk into this home.

The owners of this home sought to expand and open their kitchen area. They wanted more storage space and room for their family of five. To accomplish the owners’ vision, we installed custom cabinetry to the ceiling, and a large island. There is ample room for storage now with multiple cupboards and drawers surrounding the kitchen and on the island. There is also a full pantry with soft-close dovetail drawers. The countertops and backsplash are hand-planed quartzites. The light colours really help open the space, and the dark island helps to add contrast. The fridge is a double-wide Sub-Zero and the stove is a 48” Wolf Gas Range with interchangeable coloured knobs. The perfect kitchen for cooking and enjoying family time.

This welcoming home in Riverbend lacked a kitchen with character and functionality for this family with three young children. The goal for this renovation was to supply family seating space within the kitchen and maintain the views to the expansive backyard. The herringbone tile backsplash is a striking and unique variation on the classic subway tile trend. Custom maple kitchen cabinetry with glass uppers and matching floating shelves help to open this space.

Luxurious layering in this kitchen includes backsplash wall tile of polished porcelain. A generous island is ready for stools to allow socializing, while custom cabinets allow the homeowners to achieve maximum storage in their new space.

A creamy palette of clean neutrals brings an air of sophistication to this full renovation in Brentwood. Oversized white subway tiles convey clean brightness, while open shelves next to the window are ready to showcase favourite display items. Plants, cookbooks or any much-loved decor will bring just the right amount of personalized accents.

Lighter-coloured uppers lend light to this eat-in Willow Park Kitchen. A brown feature wall adds interest to the transition to the formal dining room. The Caesarstone countertops and backsplash have an unfinished matte concrete look, bringing an urban edge to this sleek, sophisticated kitchen.

This couple was desperate to update their dated, broken-down kitchen. But they didn’t just want an update – they wanted a contemporary, unique design. The old corner pantry was the first to go. With this gone, extra cabinetry was added by extending out and even up with stacked flip-up glass front cabinets for display. The island was re-designed to better suit the couple and the flow of the space, with a curved edge crafted out of Caribou Block wood countertops. The waterfall edge and floating shelves pull the wood throughout the space, complementing the existing hardwood floors. Two-toned cabinetry and Cambria quartz countertops with matching splash are lavish details that have made these happy homeowners fall back in love with their kitchen!
