As seen on HGTV’s Property Brother’s, this newly renovated home now  became a reality with it’s elegant design. The goal here was to transform the main floor into a simplistic, yet functional space for our clients to call their forever home. Plenty of details such as purposeful cabinetry in the kitchen, a redesigned fireplace and simple accents of colour and functionality have turned this home from shab to chic.

The Envision Custom Renovations team recently had the thrilling opportunity to collaborate with none other than Drew and Jonathan Scott for an episode of Property Brothers. Calgary parents Allison and Ryan knew they wanted a change, and this renovation turned out to be everything they hoped for and more.

The Project

With two kids under two years and a shortage of space, Allison and Ryan were in need of an upgrade. Finding the right ready-made house within budget proved tricky, so it was time to settle on a 1,200 sqft fixer-upper for a full-scale renovation. The couple knew they wanted high ceilings, an open plan, a practical mudroom, a contemporary kitchen, and plenty of storage space. Prior to renovation, their new property was a bit cramped, stylistically dated, and lacking in natural light. The kitchen also overlooked the driveway, not ideal for a mom who wants to keep an eye on her kids in the backyard. Drew, Jonathan, and the Envision team had their work cut out for them.

Transformative Changes

As construction began on this ambitious reno, Envision co-founder Alan Hrehirchuk was more than up to the task of giving Allison and Ryan the home of their dreams. After eliminating the unneeded walls, our team vaulted the ceilings in the kitchen to provide a major boost in spaciousness and wow factor. Not only this, but we constructed a sizeable new garage in their backyard and repurposed the old one as an addition. This allowed for maximum functionality with a mudroom and upgraded space for storage. The kitchen was moved to the back of the house to overlook the yard (which, by the way, we outfitted with a beautiful deck), and the front door was relocated to connect with the mudroom and allow extra light in with a new window.

A New Look for a New Home

An upgraded layout should always be matched with an upgraded look. The exterior walls, formerly dressed with unsightly teal cladding, were painted a timeless earth-tone grey, while going with light interior walls and hardwood flooring helped to amplify incoming natural light. As per the couple’s request, we created a modernized kitchen with an island, unique marble mosaic backsplash, and farmhouse style pendant lighting in the dining area. Foliage and natural materials also lend the space a lovely organic feel. On the whole, Ryan and Allison’s new home more than meets their functional needs while exuding both character and contemporary flare.

As the brothers pointed out in their own article on the project, this renovation showed us once again that “customizing a home, no matter the scope of the job, is better than purchasing an expensive turnkey property.” We couldn’t have said it better ourselves!

With the right property and the right crew, renovation can be a life-changing experience that redefines the feel of your home. You deserve a living space tailored to meet your needs and those of your family, so contact us for a complimentary in-home consultation with our team.

In this full home renovation, we brought out the beauty of the original oak hardwood flooring by re-sanding and clear-coating it, as well as adding additional areas. In the sitting area, our clients dreamed of a fireplace but wanted to maximize the space. We created a custom corner fireplace with a lift-up bench and floating shelves. We opened up space even further by removing walls between the kitchen and the living room. In the kitchen, we created custom cabinets with gunmetal grey slab doors, combined with ebony, enhancing the look with Waterfall Caesarstone countertops. We also customized the media cabinets and added new interior doors and trim throughout.

When the owners of this Woodbine Boulevard home wanted a complete renovation, we retained the original home’s best feature – the existing golden oak hardwood, finished on site. To update it, we feathered in new hardwood, sanded it down and stained it a medium brown. We restructured the kitchen, grouping large appliances together to allow for more ease when cooking. A large island with a wine rack incorporated into its design, a wall oven, Nougat Caesar Stone countertops with subway tiles, and soft-closer doors and drawers all work together to achieve functional luxury. Throughout the home, we added new interior doors, trim, baseboards, new knock-down ceilings, LED pot lights on dimmers and soft grey walls. We built a new main washroom and a new En-Suite with a free-standing tub. We completed the new look with a new carpet, a new railing and spindles.

Before this whole home renovation, the kitchen and other rooms were fairly dated. The house felt cramped and dark. We remodeled almost every room in their space including the kitchen and three bathrooms to create a roomy and luxurious update to the client’s home. There is new hardwood, tile and carpet all through the home. In the kitchen, a large island with cabinets, a dishwasher, sink, and vintage granite top was added. There is a 36” Jenn-Air Induction Cooktop set into the countertop. A modern range framed by bricklay tiles completes this look. The living room was updated by adding a new fireplace, glass railing and open shelving. Upstairs, the master bedroom has custom built closet shelving. The en-suite has a stunning walk in shower with floor to ceiling tile and a built-in bench. This open space along with the newly installed windows, and LED pot lights throughout creates a brighter, more modern look.

The owners of this home wanted to completely update and open their main floor and laundry area. To accomplish this, we tore out a large number of walls and posts and installed two steel I-beams that span the entire home. These structural changes created a much more expansive and attractive area. The newly remodeled kitchen features a large quartz covered island with built-in beverage fridge and eating area. Multiple cupboards and drawers provide plentiful storage space and keep the kitchen feeling clean and spacious. The living area was updated with open shelving and a contemporary fireplace. The laundry area is now completely open with wall to ceiling cabinetry and a clothing rack. Luxury vinyl plank flooring is installed throughout the entire space which is inviting, as well as durable. The lighting in this home is all automated. Our favourite feature of this main floor renovation is the added brilliance the large windows offer.

In this Tuscany home, we developed a full basement, added a larger main floor mudroom and created an additional second-floor bedroom. The underused bonus room over the garage was transformed into a fourth bedroom. The clients found that their combination mudroom and laundry area on the main floor was not ideal for their needs as their family grew. To give them more space, we moved the laundry room to the basement. Multiple custom cabinets and shelving were added as well as built-in shoe storage. A maple bench and coat rack finished off this room. Initially, the basement space for these clients was completely unfinished. The family hoped to use this space to fulfill a variety of purposes. After the remodel, this space now contains a media area, craft room, new laundry area and a bathroom. Handcrafted barn doors were installed to add separation to the main area. The newly designed basement allowed room for a large laundry area and bathroom.

The owner of this 700 square foot condo sought to completely remodel her home to better suit her needs. After completion, she now enjoys an updated kitchen including a prep counter, art room, a bright sunny living room and a full washroom remodel. In the main entryway a recessed niche with coat hooks, bench and shoe storage welcomes you into this condo. As an avid cook, this homeowner sought more functionality and counter space with her kitchen makeover. All new Kitchenaid appliances were added. Quartzite countertops add a fresh look, while custom cabinetry adds sufficient storage. A marble mosaic backsplash and two-toned cabinetry add a classic feel to this kitchen.

In the main living area, new sliding doors onto the balcony, along with cork flooring and Benjamin Moore’s Silver Lining paint open the previously dark area. A new wall was added to give the homeowner a full pantry and art space. Custom barn doors were added to separate the art space from the living area. In the master bedroom, an expansive walk-in closet was added. New flooring, paint, baseboards and chandelier make this the perfect area for relaxing. To complete the en-suite remodel, everything was completely torn out. A combination tub/shower with a custom mosaic wall niche and subway tile was installed. A new vanity with quartzite countertops finishes off this room. The homeowner is pleased with the new layout and functionality of her home. The result of this remodel is a bright, welcoming condo that is both well-designed and beautiful.

The owners of this downtown penthouse maximized their kitchen space with several zones, including a peninsula for stools and a pass-through bar. Barn doors offer a modern farmhouse entrance to a studio, while oversized white subway tile keeps the kitchen light and airy.

Our client purchased this dated bungalow in Mountview with plans to completely overhaul the main floor and exterior. New dark grey siding gives a much-needed facelift to the once tired exterior. The interior was fully remodelled, including taking out a wall to open the closed-off kitchen to the rest of the space. We gave her a functional new kitchen, a chic bathroom with cool tile choices and two bedrooms. New hardwood throughout, fresh paint and crisp finishing allow the homeowner’s mid-century modern style to shine in her very first home.
